Job Description:

Curry Senior Center, a Tenderloin based non-profit geriatric health and social services agency serving low income older adults, seeks a Registration/Eligibility Clerk to join our diverse and committed team.  Reporting to the Front Office Supervisor, this position is responsible for correctly, courteously, and promptly registering patients to prevent delays in treatment or billing problems and for ensuring accurate data entry.  Other general office tasks and duties shall include but not be limited to reception, front desk support, medical records maintenance, billing, and other clinic operations support as needed. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

Registration and Front Office Functions

  • Interview patients to obtain demographics and financial information for the medical record, encounter forms and statistics.
  • Assess potential eligibility, link and refer patients for state and federal insurance programs.
  • Conduct patient registration for clinic, lab and statistical encounters.
  • Explain eligibility procedures and fees to patients and answer patient questions.
  • Explain and enforce billing and registration policies.
  • Provide information to patients regarding reimbursement or insurance programs.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date billing information in patients’ charts.
  • Assist patients in interpreting clinic bills.
  • Contact billing office to resolve problems and answer questions.
  • Refer patients to appropriate eligibility, case management, and nursing staff.
  • Call for patients’ charts as needed; deliver charts to medical provider when registration is complete.
  • Enter data accurately and completely for electronic claims submission.
  • Ensure that encounter forms are complete and accurate prior to submission.
  • Batch and transmit all encounter forms.
  • Ensure that all patient encounter forms are processed appropriately, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Provide support and coverage of front desk duties
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Suggest system improvements as needed.
  • Provide translation services for patients when appropriate.

Agency Responsibilities

  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other meetings as requested or required by agency of funding source.
  • Take responsibility for recording patient/client information in a timely manner.
  • Follow all agency protocols regarding safety and professional behavior.
  • Report for disaster response duty in event of a major disaster as declared by the Mayor of the City/County of San Francisco, or the Director of Public Health.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to work with homeless, low-income, and culturally diverse older adults with multiple or severe health problems.
  • Ability to utilize computer keyboard to perform duties accurately and efficiently.
  • Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm with accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Willingness to report for duty in an emergency disaster.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to speak English and write legibly.
  • Bilingual language capability, prefer Spanish, Tagalog, Russian or Cantonese.
  • Willingness to be flexible.
  • Able to take direction, work independently and work cooperative as a valued member of a team.
