History
Established: 1979. Began as an all volunteer clinic, the first of its kind, to fill a need for lesbians who were not accessing the health care system due to possible homophobia, ignorance, discrimination or intimidation.
Founded By: Lesbian Activists and named for Del Martin & Phyllis Lyon

Philosophy
Mission: Lyon-Martin Health Services provides personalized healthcare and support services to women and transgender people who lack access to quality care because of their sexual or gender identity, regardless of their ability to pay.

Services
Target Population: Women and transgender people (MTF and FTM) 18 and older, especially those who are low-income, people of color, lesbian or bisexual, HIV-positive, and/or older.
Number of Clients: over 4,000 per year
Services Provided: Primary care, gynecology, comprehensive primary care and gender reassignment support for transgender people, primary care for HIV+ women, breast cancer early detection programs, mental health services, health care for the homeless, transgender healthcare advocacy and community organizing, smoking cessation support, rapid HIV testing, substance abuse education and screening.
