It's AmeriCorps Week! Join us in thanking members everywhere!

It’s AmeriCorps Week! From March 7-13, and throughout the month, join us in celebrating our National Health Corps San Francisco (NHC SF) AmeriCorps members! It’s a time that we acknowledge not only our San Francisco team, but all AmeriCorps programs nationwide for the service they do!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NHC SF’s program was met with many challenges. Despite the difficulties, members persevered and committed themselves to serve our most vulnerable communities by addressing our programs’ key focus areas: reducing and/or presenting prescription drugs and opioid disorders; improving older adult health and quality of life; increasing physical activity and improving nutrition; preventing and responding to COVID-19.

Our 2020-2021 cohort has risen to the challenges of performing service duties virtually and in-person gracefully, and they continue to support the San Francisco Bay Area. Here are some examples of what NHC SF members have done so far during their Service Term:

  • COVID-19 contact tracing and case investigation, resource referrals, immunization education and scheduling, results disclosure, vaccine outreach initiatives, and COVID-19 screenings; Assisting teams in Shelter-in Place hotels by providing resources, education and services to patients; Enrolling patients with Opioid Use Disorder into Medicated-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services; Virtually assisting seniors with their health and technology equipment; Refer and navigate patients to food resources to address ongoing food insecurity; and connecting high risk patients to governmental resources such as MediCal, CalFresh and employment benefits.

  • Collectively served with a variety of local and national organizations, including the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, Little Brother Friends of the Elderly, Love for our Elders, Hunger Free America, Color-A-Smile, S.F. Marin Food Bank, and Food Runners S.F.

  • Strengthened connections and developed a supportive environment for their cohort by planning Esprit De Corps activities.

During the week, NHC SF will be posting on our website, sending out emails, and posting on our social media in appreciation of our members. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram if you don’t do so already! If you know an AmeriCorps member, past or present, we encourage you to give them a shoutout and give them an #AmeriThanks for all that they do for their community! You can also take part in our #ThankfulThursday tribute by posting on Thursday, March 11 (tag @AmeriCorps and #AmeriThanks #ThankfulThursday).

Join us in celebrating the impact of our programs and offer our thanks to each and every one for volunteering to serve others. Together, we can help the country recover and come back stronger.
