SOS Provides Care at San Francisco's New Winter Shelter
Mick Jagger sang, "Ooh, a storm is threatening my very life today. If I don't get me some shelter, I think I'm gonna fade away." Every year, San Francisco sets up winter shelters during the coldest, wettest months to bring our unsheltered residents indoors- and prevent unnecessary deaths by exposure to harsh weather conditions. Since January 4th, SFCCC's Street Outreach Services (SOS) program has been providing weekly mobile medical care at San Francisco's new winter shelter, in the Tenderloin's Cova Hotel. Through a partnership with SF Department of Public Health and Episcopal Community Services, SOS provides on-site urgent care, referrals to primary care, naloxone distribution & education (to help prevent overdose), & other health & hygiene supplies to Cova residents. Thank you to the SOS team for supporting folks through what can be, for some, a long, cold, lonely winter.
