SFCCC's SOS Program Welcomes New Medical Van

Goodbye "Big Blue" & Hello "Great White"!

Goodbye "Big Blue" & Hello "Great White"!

After 17 years of service, 17,000 urgent and preventive care visits to people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco, 850 medical providers trained in street medicine, and several community service awards, SFCCC retired its old medical van on April 16th.

A small farewell event was held for the vehicle that staff fondly referred to as "Big Blue", which also served as a welcome party for SOS' new medical van- especially designed with COVID response in mind.

Features of the new SOS van include 2 entrance/exit doors to support safe patient flow, separate heating/cooling units in the front and rear sections for improved air circulation, and an attached exterior awning to protect staff and patients from the elements in the event that specific patients continue to need to be seen outdoors.

Thank you to our sponsors, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services/ Health Resources & Services Administration and Sutter Health, along with many others for your generous support in helping make this wish a reality.

Take a virtual tour of our 2021 medical van and join us in welcoming our new SOS clinic on wheels!
